Driveway gravel calculator
Enter your driveway's size to see how much gravel to order, in cubic yards and tons.
New: How much gravel for a driveway? — worked examples that match this calculator.
⚠️ Assumed defaults: 1.4 tons/yd³ and +10% are typical figures published by gravel suppliers (e.g. CT Hauling, Omni Calculator gravel guide), not an official standard. Ask your quarry for the actual weight of the stone you're buying. Depth guidance from the same suppliers: about 2 in. to refresh an existing driveway, 4–6 in. total for new construction (base plus surface layer).
Ordering tips
- Ask the quarry or yard for the actual tons-per-yard of the stone you are buying. Density varies by rock type and moisture; the calculator's default is only a starting point.
- Confirm whether your quote is by the ton or by the cubic yard, and whether delivery includes spreading.
- Depth depends on use: refreshing an existing driveway often needs less material than building a new base plus surface. Follow your contractor or county driveway standards when they apply.
- Call for utility locates before digging.
